Books as mental stimulation
Soren Kierkegaard once said, “It’s a good sign when the book reads you,” books are great sources to delve into what others have seen or felt or thought. What one experience in life might have some similarities in yours, the antidote to discouragement is to read biographies.
Learn to see for yourself how did the author conquer defeats and gain victories. Read psychological books if you wish to gain a deeper understanding to the human minds. Read fine poetry if you wish to appreciate the beauty of lives.
And let me add, read public speaking book if you wish to gain a thorough understanding in it. Don’t be confused though, to succeed in public speaking requires much of your attention and efforts in your part to succeed. Merely by reading alone doesn’t guarantee you success, that’s why the topic is titled as ‘Books as mental stimulation’.
Books open the heart and mind of a person if you allow it so. They are meant to entertain, provide information and to stimulate your thinking. But most people often dwell on the idea that books are tools to do well in school, no wonder many people have studied much without learning much, such is the surest path to mental laziness.
Be careful though of the books you choose to read, after all like public speaking, never spend a dime or your time on things which prove utter worthless at last end. Book which seems to promise more than it delivers, not only doesn’t deserve of your time and attention, leaving undesirable effects on your thinking much less to stimulate it.
Book with title as ‘Earning billions in one week’, doesn’t carry much of mental stimulation, it only carries the weigh of the papers. Always check the credentials of the authors, how the general public perceive the author to be. Read with an open mind with your own thoughts and perceptions about the contents as well as the authors. Last but not least, a pessimistic writing will turn a reader pessimistic.
