The Magic Pause!
You feel inferior in front of the audience? Even if you don't, you notice that somehow the audience seem to be belittling you, not giving you the due respect that you deserve. As you walk onto the stage, the audience don't seem to be aware of your presence there, and some are still in teir chatty mood?
You hate the judgemental attitude, don't you? They pre-judge you as a lousy speaker even before you start speaking. The magic power of 'pause' would do the trick just fine. Aftr all, it's no magic at all.
As you walk on to the stage, don't rush too quickly to the opening of the speech, never hasten your speech delivery. And to your surprise, you see some of the audience don't seem to be giving much attention to you. So take a little while longer to look at your audience and study them, never say a single word and within seconds they will realize that you are in fact, looking at them, and they would eventually shift their attention back to you.
Maybe you just don't realize that pause is in fact a powerful tool to public speaking. At first, you might not even feel comfortable for pausing so long, that kind of awkwardness, I too nderstand. Do you watch drama series? Do you notice that at the end of each episode especially nearing its climax, the drama would end aprubtly leaving you in suspense, as you crave to continue with the next episode. After which, they will let you see a glimpse of preview what the next episode is.
The same rule applies to power pause, when you pause abruptly when people least expecting you, especailly even before you begin to speak, you will be leaving your audience in full suspense, as they would expect those banal openings usually delivered by speakers.
